Minister for Children and Youth Affairs opens Jim’s Place

Welcome to the Home of Serious Fun

We were delighted to have Frances Fitzgerald TD, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, join us last week at the official opening of our new multi-purpose activity centre.

This is the first major development at Barretstown in a number of years and will provide much needed indoor activity space to allow us to serve more children affected by serious illness and their families.

Speaking at the opening, CEO of Barretstown, Dee Ahearn announced that the Centre will provide much needed indoor activity space and will extend the calendar of camps to reduce waiting lists and serve more children and their families. She said: “We are now in a position to welcome new illness groups to Barretstown; currently, 90% of the children who come to us are oncology patients and we are acutely aware that there are many more seriously ill children who would really benefit from our life changing programmes.

The building gives us some much needed indoor space so we can keep our campers cosy and dry if the weather says so!

Here’s some photos from the event.
