Dream Baby Dream for Barretstown

A GROUP of campers from Barretstown have released a powerful and moving version of Dream Baby Dream, a song made famous by Bruce Springsteen.

The song has been released to mark the 20th anniversary of Barretstown, which has provided therapeutic recreation or “serious fun” for over 27,000 campers since our foundation by Paul Newman in 1994.

The performance, recorded at Barretstown on February 8th, features dozens of current and former Barretstown campers led by Joyce Murphy, who attended a Barretstown camp after her sister Rachel died of cancer in 2004.  They are assisted by the Christ Church Cathedral Girls Choir and a number of other well-known musicians including Tom Dunne, Mundy and Steve Wall.

“We chose this song because of the absolute simplicity and positivity of the lyrics, and the quiet uplifting nature of the melody, which seem to capture the Barretstown spirit”, according to Barretstown CEO Dee Ahearn. “This song captures the resilience and optimism that our campers and their families have shown in the 20 years since we opened our doors, and we are very proud of what they have done”

The video was produced by Gary Cohen and directed by Shimmy Marcus.  The song was recorded by Andy Knightley and Gavin Glass.
