We're Back!

We're Back!

The Barretstown Dublin Mountains Challenge will be back for September 2021 and this year, we'll have an improved and safe challenge for you!
Last year the DMC embraces technology with our brand new self-guided Dublin Mountains Way App!
This year, we plan to offer some more ways to join us for the Dublin Mountains Challenge!
Watch this space!our own

Last year we worked hard to bring you our new app-based challenge that can guide you along the Dublin Mountains Way route, safely and in your own time. It meant that supporters could still take part and help us raise vital funds for Barretstown.

The app give the option of a safe, fun and interactive way to experience the Dublin Mountains challenge, where you choose a time that suits you or your group, at any stage during the month of September. The DMC has evolved again for this year and we are asking you to evolve with us and sign up!

Those who support us this year will be a part of a very special group of supporters who are there to support us no matter the challenge.

Registration for the Dublin Mountains Challenge 2021

Registration opening soon!
Be part of a very special DMC event this year! ...

Step 1: Choose your challenge

Last year, the DMC evolved to be all about YOUR hike with our brand new, self-guided DMC phone app experience! YOU choose the day and YOU choose if you will hike either 30km from Tallaght to Glencullen or 42km to Shankill. Hike as an individual or with a team, lead by our DMC app, full of fun games, challenges and information. A truly unique, safe and interactive experience of the Dublin Mountains Way hike.

This year we hope to have a 2nd option of how to take on the DMC for Barretstown in September!
Announcement coming soon!

Step 2: Register with Barretstown

Register for the event will be opened shortly and will be here. Once registered for the self-guided challenge option, you'll receive a confirmation email and will be posted out your Participant Event Guide with important event details and a free mobile phone power-bank, thanks to Lucozade Sport, so you stay powered up while using the app!
We'll also keep you updated by email and by social media so be sure to follow us.

Step 3: Set up a fundraising page

Make it easy for family and friends to sponsor you by collecting sponsorships online. Set up your own free online fundraising page during the registration process
you can do your OWN virtual DMC 30km or 42km hike in YOUR area and just set up your own Just Giving page by clicking here:

The Dublin Mountains Challenge is an annual fundraising hike for Barretstown. The route follows the picturesque and way-marked Dublin Mountains Way. The event traditionally starts in Sean Walsh Park in Tallaght and you can choose to hike a 30km challenge, which finishes in Glencullen. Or choose a 42km challenge which finishes in Shankill.
Instead of a mass-gathering event on one day, our 2020 event offered a self-guided challenge along the route, using our brand new DMC app!
This year is going to be a little different again, but watch this space for more info!

You will be able to enter the challenge as an individual or as a small group, to form a team.

By taking part in the Dublin Mountains Challenge, you will help to support Barretstown and Press Play on childhood for so many families that need our help now more than ever.

If you take the option to take on a self-guided DMC again this year, once you have registered, you will be posted out your participant pack and emailed your own personal access code for the app, which will only be useable for one person and will be linked to the email address you gave when registering.
Start your training, set a date to take on the challenge and simply open the app at the starting line and the app will explain the rest!

How much does it cost?

Entry fees will be announced soon also, for all new sign-ups for the 2021 DMC challenge, whether you are taking on a self-guided challenge in your own area, or along the Dublin Mountains Way in your own time or joining us for a special limited edition one-day event in September 2021!
All participants are being asked to raise a minimum sponsorship whether you're participating as an individual or as part of a team.
The money you raise will go directly to fund our life - changing programmes of Therapeutic Recreation.
Sincere thanks from Barrestown for your vital support this year, more than ever

You Can Make A Difference

Thank you for helping us serve more children affected by serious illness

The COVID-19 crisis means that children with a serious illness like those who come to Barretstown, who are immune-compromised, are currently even more isolated. It also means they need Barretstown’s therapeutic programmes now more than ever before.
We are determined to keep the magic of Barretstown alive for these campers and so we developed our new Barretstown Live programmes. These programme allowed us to reach families from all over Ireland as we broadcast full days of camp, fun and engaging activities directly in to the safety of their homes.
Barretstown Live includes all aspects of our therapeutic programmes that make Barretstown so unique and allows us to support children suffering the effects of isolation due to their serious illness which the current situation is only making worse.
Thankfully we have also been able to now re-open camp and begin to have children and families back to Barretstown every week!
Childhood stops for seriously ill children, but by taking part in the Dublin Mountain Challenge 2020 you are helping us to Press Play on their childhood again.

Here are some links to some of the amazing organisations we've worked with to put together this amazing app! ...

Coillte is the state-owned organisation that manages Ireland’s national forests in a sustainable and environmentally sensitive manner, thus delivering benefits to local communities and the wider society.
Their motto is to Grow-Transform-Sustain. This year, the Dublin Mountains forest uplands that are under Coillte’s care are undergoing a regeneration to make a more diverse, resilient, multi-generational and sustainable amenity for nature and the public and this is known as The Dublin Mountains makeover.
Information on the Dublin Mountains Makeover is available on Coillte's website: https://www.coillte.ie/coillte-nature/ourprojects

Up to date news from Coillte

The Dublin Mountains Partnership or DMP was set up in May 2008 with the ultimate aim of improving the recreational experience for users of the Dublin Mountains, whilst recognising the objectives and constraints of the various landowners.
The partner organisations involved are Coillte, South Dublin Co. Co., Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Co. Co., Dublin City Council, National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Dublin Mountains Initiative, an umbrella group representing the recreation users of the Dublin Mountains, since 2018 Fáilte Ireland has sat on the DMP Board. “
