Aisling O’Loughlin joins Team Barretstown for the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon this June

Don’t miss out on making a positive difference to a child living with serious illness by becoming part of Team Barretstown today!

Barretstown is proud to announce that Aisling O’Loughlin, TV presenter and journalist of Exquisite.ie, has come on board to lead Team Barretstown in this year’s VHI Women’s Mini Marathon.  We encourage our supporters to join Aisling and Team Barretstown to take part in the race, to help raise valuable funds to provide Therapeutic Recreation programmes for children with serious illnesses.

By joining Team Barretstown, participants can train as part of a team in a fun atmosphere with experts from Barretstown offering tips and training advice to support people and set them up for success.

Commenting on why she is taking part this year, Aisling O’Loughlin said: ”I’m delighted to represent Barretstown this year for the VHI Women’s mini-marathon. Parents of sick children need as much support as possible and children just want to have fun and live in the moment. Barretstown holds a very special place in the hearts of the people of Ireland so it is an honour to rally the troops on their behalf. On a personal note, there’s always a surge of joy and hope when you step out with 40 thousand women to show solidarity with those in need in this country. It’s a mega powerful experience, no matter what your level of fitness is, and extremely emotional.”

Commenting on Team Barretstown Dee Ahern, CEO of Barretstown, said: “Every year the number of people joining Team Barretstown to take part in fitness events, and to raise money for our work, is growing.  Our incredible supporters really take away a lot from participating, not only in terms of their fitness goals, but also through learning from like-minded individuals and experts. Between the camaraderie of working together, and the fun along the way, it really is an event that will leave people with a positive sense of accomplishment and I would encourage people to join Aisling and the team this year.”

The VHI Women’s Mini Marathon is the largest one day charity event in Ireland and the biggest event of its kind for women in the world! This year it will take place on Monday 5th June 2017. The race began in 1983 with 9,000 women taking part, but has grown so much over the years that more than 40,000 women are expect to run this year! The marathon helps tens of thousands of women across Ireland achieve their fitness goals, while raising valuable funds for their charities of choice. Women can take part in the marathon both seriously or for fun, with both competitive and recreational athletes catered for.
