Be part of Paul Newman’s legacy for future generations

Help us so they too can experience the transformative magic of Barretstown. Without our supporters Barretstown won’t continue to exist. Leave a gift in your will to help impact children with serious illness lives.

Ensuring we can be here for future generations can be your legacy, by leaving a gift in your will

Whether it is a modest sum of money, or a small percentage, every gift will help bring magic into the lives of children living with serious illness.

Our serious fun takes serious money, a founding principle of Barretstown is that families never pay a cent to come to camp. It costs €4.8 million each year to run our life changing programmes.

One of the most powerful and lasting ways a person can support Barretstown is by considering leaving a gift in their will. By supporting Barretstown through your Will you can be part of the magic for the next 20, 40, 60, 80 years!

All gifts left to us in wills, no matter how big or small the amount, will be combined into the Magic Fund. This Fund is a vital source of income for Barretstown, allowing us to bring more campers to Barretstown and to invest in vital capital projects we would not otherwise be in a position to undertake.

Our Mission

Barretstown’s mission is to rebuild the lives of children affected by serious illness and their families. We believe that every child with a serious illness should enjoy their childhood. ...

Barretstown offers free, specially designed camps and programmes for children and their families living with a serious illness – supported behind the scenes by 24 hour on site medical and nursing care. All of the children and families come to Barretstown free of charge. Everything, including accommodation, food, medical assistance and travel costs are provided at no cost to the family.

The Barretstown programme is endorsed by leading medical professionals and has become internationally recognised as having a profound and lasting impact on the lives of children with serious illness. After participating, children go home with increased confidence, self-esteem and the skills they need to face the rest of their journey to recovery.

Barretstown… Paul Newman’s Legacy

More than two decades ago, Paul Newman had a vision:

Imagine if children living with serious illness had the chance to simply be children. To just have fun. So he started a camp where kids could, in his words,

raise a little hell

Today, we continue Paul’s legacy as an independently financed and independently managed camp, and a proud member of the SeriousFun Children’s Network.

Our Vision for the Future

Higher rates of cancer diagnosis and improved survival rates are leading to an increase in demand for our services, as more and more children and families face the long road through treatment. ...

Our core objectives for the coming years are to:

* Extend our camp calendar year round and expand our site facilities to allow us bring more campers to each camp. This will help to reduce our waiting lists.
Expand the illness groups we serve, to maximise the unique facilities and programmes we are lucky to have.

* Extend and expand our Outreach Programmes –these programmes bring the hopeful spirit of Barretstown beyond the castle gates to hospitals, schools and communities.

* Ensure that every child and family who wants to come to Barretstown to undertake our Therapeutic Recreation programmes can do so.

Be Part of The Magic Fund

All gifts left to Barretstown through a will are combined into our Magic Fund.

The aim of this Fund is to help us bring even more children to experience the magic of camp and to invest in vital capital projects, we would otherwise be unable to do.

To recognise all the amazing people who make this special commitment, those who leave a gift to Barretstown, will be remembered by adding a permanent light to our Lakeside Lights. The Lakeside Lights display is a new permanent place of recognition by our beautiful lake opposite the Castle. Starting with a large founder light representing Paul Newman, additional lights will be added in a swirl to remember each person who contributes to the magic of Barretstown.
