We are delighted you have decided to apply to volunteer! You are now a step closer to experience the magic of volunteering with Barretstown !

Thank you for your interest in Barretstown. Most of our Autumn camps are now full but we are still looking for volunteers for Autumn 9 Camp (9 – 12 November) and Spring 2018. We will have our camp calendar for 2018 shortly.  You can apply for spring 2018 and select this on the application form.

During the autumn we run Family Camps and Bereavement Camps for families. The commitment for Family camps is (2pm Friday – 3pm Sunday) and for Bereavement Camps (2pm Thursday – 3pm Sunday). We also run one children’s camp during the Halloween break.

New volunteers for our autumn camps who are based in Ireland must attend one of our mandatory training days. Oversees volunteers will be trained on arrival at camp.

Autumn Training: Sunday 10th September(9.30am – 1pm) or Wednesday 18th October (5.30pm-9.00pm)

We are also looking for people to become involved with our ongoing outreach programmes, you can indicate on your application form if you are interested in these programmes.

Volunteer Requirements

• You must be at least 19 years or over

• You need to be fluent in English

• You need to be available for the full length of the camp session/outreach programme

• You need to attend a training session prior to taking up your role at camp (if based in Ireland)

Step 3 - Submit your documents

Please note: We have one volunteering application form for all roles and sessions. When completing your form please review our camp calendar first and indicate the session(s) and role(s) you are interested in.

Once you have submitted your online application form please submit the Garda Vetting Invitation Form(below). All applicants must be vetted prior to volunteering. Please submit this within 2 weeks of application as the vetting process takes many weeks. Please read the guidelines with this form before completion.

You will also be required to submit the following documents once offered a volunteer place at camp:
- 2 References
- Criminal Background Check from Country of Origin (applicants whose country of birth is not Ireland)

The National Vetting Bureau Act (Children and Vulnerable Persons) provides a legislative basis for the mandatory vetting of persons who wish to undertake certain work or activities relating to children or vulnerable persons or to provide certain services to children or vulnerable persons. All applicants must under go Garda Vetting.

In addition applicants whose country of birth is not Ireland must supply a Criminal Background Check from Country of Origin. This will be requested once offered a place at camp, or you can submit this at the same time as your vetting form if you wish.

New volunteer caras based in Ireland must attend one of our mandatory training days. Overseas volunteers are trained at camp.

Autumn ( Sunday 10th Sept) (9.30am-1.00pm) or Wednesday 18th Oct (5.30pm-9.00pm)

Summer Training – all volunteer caras/interpreters including those coming from overseas takes place the day before each camp commences.
You stay on site after the training for the session. Chaperones are trained at camp and complete on-line training prior to travel.
