Volunteers at Barretstown are know as Caras , the Irish word for friend. As a Cara, you have a key role in supporting and encouraging each child to take part in all aspects of camp, while making sure they’re safe and supervised at all times. And most importantly you’ll help them have fun!

SUMMER CAMPS ONLY – All volunteers (except chaperones) are required to arrive at Barretstown for 9am the day previous to the first day of camp for training. Chaperone arrival day is the same day as camper arrival. International volunteers/ interpreters will be picked up the night before training at 9pm at the airport.

 

For example, Summer 1 camp (June 16th-22nd), international volunteers/interpreters will be collected from Dublin Airport at 9pm on 14th June. All other volunteers will be required for training on June 15th at 9am, and volunteer chaperones will arrive on June 16th along with the campers they are travelling with.

We are currently seeking volunteers for our Spring Camps, which run from Friday to Sunday each weekend.
All camp dates and requirements are listed on the application form.

Prerequisites to volunteering at camp
- 19 Years or over
- Complete an Interview
- Complete Garda Vetting
- Complete Reference Checking

Training

Training

As a new volunteer, you will be well supported at camp and undertake our training programme. In advance of volunteering at camp, volunteers must undertake one of the virtual training sessions below and they will also receive additional training on arrival at camp. Dates for training to be confirmed.
